Case 01

High School Football Player — Varsity Linebacker

15–16 years (sophomore)
The Problem

Athlete began the program March 12, 2014. A 5'10", 205lb sophomore linebacker coming back from right shoulder labrum surgery (injured bench pressing at a previous facility), with three years of "no pain, no gain" powerlifting-style training behind him. Assessment showed tight hip flexors, calves, quads, and IT bands; shoulder / lat / pec mobility restrictions; and visible soft-tissue issues through the upper body. Biomechanical film showed no shin fold on the first steps, hip internal rotation during knee drive, no paw-back, heel strike in front of the hips, full triple extension behind the body, and a heavy / lethargic run for his strength level. Baselines that day: 10-yard sprint 2.06s, broad jump 6'5", vertical jump 17".

The Plan

Started on Dr. Yessis's 1x20 protocol with 14 exercises per session at a light load — a hard adjustment for an athlete used to 3–5 sets of max-effort work. No jumps, med-ball throws, or sprints for the first 8 workouts. Active cords (hip abduction / adduction / knee drive / paw-back), Dr. Yessis GHR, full-ROM back raises, and bent-knee and standing calf raises built the base; upper body stayed light to protect the post-surgical shoulder. Frequency progressed from 2x/week (workouts 1–8) to 3x/week. Off-day aerobic base: 1-mile timed runs on Tuesday / Thursday / Saturday — no gassers, no ladders, no direct speed work until mechanics were ready. Slow-motion video on both side and front views drove every cue.

The Outcome

April 6 retest (workout 9): broad jump 7'8" (+15"), vertical 9'5" (+2"). May 21 retest: broad jump 8'1" (+18" total), vertical 9'8" (+5" total), 10-yard sprint 1.86s (−0.20s). Dropped 2 minutes off his timed mile in the same window. No explosive loading until the body had earned it — and the numbers moved anyway.

Case 02

Female High School Soccer

15 years
The Problem

Athlete returning from a partial ACL reconstruction 7 months prior. Cleared by surgeon for running but had visible compensation on the surgical side, poor deceleration mechanics, and a fear pattern on cutting drills.

The Plan

8-week reconditioning block integrating deceleration drills, single-leg strength progression (single-leg RDL → skater squat → landing mechanics), and constraints-led cutting work where we manipulated field size rather than cueing technique.

The Outcome

Athlete returned to full team training without re-injury through the next competitive season. Deceleration symmetry improved from a 14% side-to-side deficit to under 4% on force-plate testing.

Specific athlete identifiers withheld. Outcome data and methodology reviewed with the athlete's surgeon and physical therapist.

Case 03

Multi-Sport Youth Athlete

9–10 years
The Problem

Young athlete "behind" peers in coordination and body awareness — late to sport-specific academies, struggling with rhythm and timing in team drills.

The Plan

12-week youth development block focused on physical literacy — animal flow patterns, locomotion variety (skipping, galloping, hopping, lateral), and perception-action games rather than sport-specific skill work.

The Outcome

By the end of the block, the athlete was reading the game two steps ahead of where they started. Parents reported the largest change was in general confidence — climbing, riding a bike, moving around the house.

Case 04

Adult — Return to Function

40s
The Problem

Long-standing lower back pain (8+ years), three failed rounds of physical therapy, no diagnosis beyond "non-specific mechanical LBP". Visible anterior pelvic tilt, poor hip hinge strategy, and a tendency to bear weight on heels.

The Plan

Posturology assessment identified a vestibular asymmetry and a foot/eye coordination deficit driving the compensation pattern. 12-week program built around the posturology corrections and progressive loaded stretching (Kinstretch).

The Outcome

Pain reduced from daily 5/7 to occasional 1/7 within 8 weeks. The client returned to recreational hiking and started coaching their kid's soccer team — the first time in 6 years they'd felt comfortable moving that freely.

Case 05

Junior Tennis

14 years
The Problem

Top-100 nationally ranked player with a recurring right-ankle sprain pattern (3 episodes in 18 months) and visible deceleration issues on first-step direction changes.

The Plan

Cutting mechanics block (4 weeks, 2x/week). Reorganized deceleration mechanics using a constraints-led approach — modified court size, scoring incentives that rewarded deceleration quality, and split-stance strength work.

The Outcome

No further ankle episodes through the next competitive season. First-step directional change measurable improved on court-based testing. Athlete earned a college commitment without losing any matches to re-injury.

Case 06

High School Football — Return from Shoulder Surgery

15–16 years
The Problem

Sophomore linebacker returning from right shoulder labrum repair. Three years of "no pain, no gain" training — limited hip hinge, poor deceleration mechanics, no paw-back in acceleration, and a tendency to land on his heels with each first step. Tight hip flexors, calves, quads, and IT bands; soft-tissue restrictions through the upper body that limited overhead and pressing tolerance.

The Plan

12-week rebuild starting with hip mobility, soft-tissue work, and shoulder-specific corrective progressions. Reorganized the warm-up around joint-by-joint prep, then layered in acceleration mechanics — shin fold on the first steps, hip drive, and active paw-back — with low-volume sprint exposure and technical feedback on every rep. Loaded box squat variations and posterior-chain work rebuilt lower-body strength without aggravating the shoulder.

The Outcome

Returned to full team training with a clean bill from the surgeon. Acceleration mechanics changed visibly on slow-motion video — first-step shin fold, hip drive, and paw-back all present. Athlete went on to start at linebacker the following season and reported no shoulder setbacks.

Case 07

Female Youth Athlete — Sprint Speed Development

Middle School / Early High School
The Problem

Two female athletes tracked across a ~10-week training block (February to April). Baseline testing on a standard indoor turf surface: Athlete A at 1.64s in the 10-yard and 4.40s in the 30-yard dash; Athlete B at 1.60s in the 10-yard and 4.18s in the 30-yard. Both were clean of injury but had room to improve acceleration mechanics and 30-yard carry.

The Plan

Block built around acceleration mechanics (posture at start, shin fold on first steps, hip drive, paw-back) paired with consistent speed exposure 2x per week. Low total sprint volume per session with technical feedback on every rep — emphasizing quality of the first 10 meters and posture through the 30. Strength and posterior-chain work supported the on-field changes.

The Outcome

Both athletes showed measurable gains at the April retest. Athlete A dropped from 1.64s → 1.50s in the 10-yard (−0.14s) and 4.40s → 4.10s in the 30-yard (−0.30s). Athlete B dropped from 1.60s → 1.49s in the 10-yard (−0.11s) and 4.18s → 3.93s in the 30-yard (−0.25s). The carry through the 30 — not just the first 10 — was the most encouraging signal that mechanics were sticking under speed.
